Sssssh, Silence!

Dear God,

(Silence)
(Silence)
(Silence)
“I am here, child.”
(Silence)
(Silence)
“I am listening, child,”
(Silence)
“Daughter, is today game time?”
I shook my head.
“You are not talking,”
I nodded
“You came in for some sign-langauge practice?”
I giggled.
(Silence)
“Ready when you are.”
I giggled again.
“It worked, dad, it worked,”
(He raised his brows)
“The silence worked,” I laughed
“Fill me in a little, please?”
“Every time I come to you, I do a lot of the talking, and you do a lot of the listening without saying a word. So I thought of how to get you to talk more, and the Holy Spirit said I should try silence in your presence.
“I see.”
“I did, and it worked. When I come to you in silence, you speak. ”
He nodded.
Why didn’t you tell me that since I whispered
“You didn’t ask.”
“So I have to ask for everything? But sometimes you do the things I didn’t ask for. ”
“I like the sound of your voice, too.”
I laughed.
“I don’t believe you, Lord, you like the sound of whining?”
“Your voice is the voice regardless.”
Hmmmm. Nice to know.
(Silence)
(Silence)
I cleared my throat.
(Silence)
Lord, you are so comfortable in silence.
(Smiles)
“You can be too,” he said kindly.
“My mind runs riot, whoever I am silent. It just roams. ”
“Just open up your heart.”
“It’s easy for you because you already know the heart of men. I wish I really knew your heart. ”
“Your heart knows my heart,”
Hmmm.
It’s does? Always?
(Nods)
“Trust it more,” he winked
I nodded, winking back.
(Silence)
Hmmm.
“Dad, I have to go. I wish I could stay forever, and I kinda of love the silence. Felt you more than ever. Let’s do it more, okay?”
(Nods)
“I love you, Dad.”
“I love you child”.
This is your daughter, and I am checking in silently.
